A New AP Ergonomic Perpetual Calendar
When time complexity is managed by a single crown
On the occasion of Audemars Piguet's 150th anniversary in 2025, the Swiss luxury watch brand has unveiled a new Perpetual Calendar movement, Calibre 7138. Developed over five years and incorporating ergonomic principles, we will explore what makes this movement special and which new watch models it powers for this milestone.
Innovative movement adjustment via a single crown
Moving away from the need for pushers for adjustments, the application of ergonomic science—focused on simplification and refinement—has resulted in a perpetual calendar system that can be adjusted entirely via the crown (All-in-one Crown) without the need for additional tools. While it may take a little time to memorize the operational steps for each crown position, once you are familiar with it, it offers great convenience and benefits the case design by eliminating the need for numerous buttons around it.
New watches from a new movement
Naturally, a new movement comes with new watches. For this important occasion, AP has chosen its hottest collection, the Royal Oak—featuring a new gold material—to launch alongside the CODE 11.59. Every new model features a Perpetual Calendar displaying the day, date, month, leap year, and moon phase, with the addition of a 24-hour display with a red indicator warning against adjustment during prohibited times, as well as the 52-week sequence displayed on the outer rim.
