Starting as an automaton creator who once served the kings of Prussia as well as China in the 18th century, Pierre Jaquet-Droz has passed down his legacy of automaton innovation to the present-day Jaquet Droz brand.

The Magic Lotus Automaton is a mechanical timepiece inspired by a lotus pond. Its black onyx dial displays the time, featuring exquisitely engraved water patterns. Limited to only 28 pieces, the various elements on the dial demonstrate the watchmaker’s meticulous attention to detail, from the mother-of-pearl lotus flowers to the gemstone-encrusted stamen. The case is crafted from 43mm red gold, paired with a dark green alligator leather strap.

Every element incorporated has both meaning and function. The dragonfly hovering over the water indicates the 68-hour power reserve; when the power runs out, the dragonfly comes to rest on a lotus leaf. The carp wags its tail and swims instantly, driven by the Cal. 2653 AT2 movement. It does not simply circle; the movement of the carp swimming through the lotus flowers and water currents is a cleverly designed mechanism spanning 30 seconds.
