Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Skelet-One
With the popularity of social media and easier access to global information than ever before, we have come to know our world better. Finding delicious food is easier, we learn about many new travel destinations, and even world-class fashion and cosmetic brands are available for us to choose from, not just those sold in department stores. The same applies to watches, with hundreds and thousands of brands accepted globally. Due to this widened perspective through the internet, the "indie" watches we refer to have begun to gain more recognition and popularity in our country, thanks to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the craft. Take, for example, the brand Jaquet Droz, the master of uniqueness with the "8" as its signature and a distinct design philosophy that has captured many people's hearts.

In this gloomy year of 2021, JD has launched a new collection of the Grande Seconde Skelet-One, a skeleton watch that uses high and low element placement to create a 3D effect. It has been well-received globally just a few years after its debut. This time, the Skelet-One does not disappoint, arriving in 3 styles and 3 colors that add a great deal of vibrancy and excitement to the world of horology.

The Grande Seconde Skelet-One, if not pronounced in English, bears the cool and unique name "Grand Second Skelet-One." It is strikingly eye-catching with vibrant yellow, blue, and green hues, each with subtle differences on the dial. The case material uses Plasma Ceramic, a new manufacturing technology that makes it dozens of times stronger than high-tech ceramic; it is almost comparable to metal but exceptionally lightweight.
The blue and green models come in a matted black ceramic case, while the yellow model is the top-of-the-line version, featuring a glossy Plasma Ceramic case that is shiny and attention-grabbing, with a case size of 41.5 mm.

The 3D skeleton dial has been reinterpreted and designed by JD for the modern era, featuring an off-center dial layout and overlapping sub-dials to create the shape of an 8 or infinity, an indispensable element for the brand's timepieces. In the yellow model, the time-telling dial plate at 12 o'clock uses an 18K white gold plate, while the other versions use a matted black ceramic plate similar to the case. The small seconds, overlapping at the 6 o'clock position, uses a sapphire plate as the base, offering a beautiful and unique view when seen from an angle or from the side. For the top model, the hands and indices are made of 18K rose gold, while the other models use 18K gold-coated ornaments.

The in-house automatic Cal. 2663 SQ movement is beautifully finished in black, utilizing a silicon balance spring in a double barrel, and features a subtle sparkle against the watch's black tones with an 18K white gold oscillating weight and 30 beautiful jewels. It provides a power reserve of up to 68 hours. The high-grade, hand-crafted fabric straps, backed with leather in colors matching the case, are paired with a buckle clasp made from Plasma Ceramic.

These three-color, three-watch collection pieces are limited to only 28 units each. By the time this article is published, most of them will likely have been spoken for. To those lucky enough to still find a brand-new one, congratulations; and an even bigger congratulations to those who secured the yellow top model that Pixiu Watch has managed to source. If you are interested, please contact us quickly to view the actual pieces and try them on, both at authorized dealers and with us.
