Jacob & Co. The Caligula

The name "The Caligula" is no mere coincidence. At a glance, it might simply appear to be a "sexy" watch design; however, the simple act of showing something directly eventually becomes tiresome. When compared to something that slowly unfolds, leaving space for the imagination, it further fuels one's curiosity. The watch face slowly rotates, revealing a scene of a society of sharing upon a luxurious gold timepiece, artfully narrating the scandalous history of the Roman era through the watch itself.

Jacob & Co. has interpreted and conveyed these legendary exploits through the design of this watch. Caligula, the tyrant who ruled Rome with a twisted heart, serves as the namesake for this model. The Guccione engraving on the dial appears elegant yet intense, reminiscent of the early days when the young king first ascended the throne and was praised and respected by all. Yet, beneath the elegant facade, as the hands of the clock move, scenes of carnal debauchery are revealed to the viewer.

The time is indicated by two blue-steel hands, flame-treated to change their color. The perimeter of the case is engraved with a fishnet pattern. The Guccione dial gradually rotates over time, passing over a sandblasted Jacob & Co. base. The enamel work took 15 hours to complete, crafted by artist Andre Martinez. It features two men and one woman in a scene of shared pleasure, a backdrop of the Roman Empire. When the pusher at the 4 o'clock position is activated, the rhythmic activity of the trio begins.

The Caligula collection is available in Rose Gold, White Gold, Rose Gold Case Pavé (diamond-set), and White Gold Case Pavé. The case measures 45 mm in diameter, is water-resistant to 30 meters, has a 48-hour power reserve, and is limited to only 69 pieces.
