New - Audemars Piguet Black Panther Flying Tourbillon
After Audemars Piguet announced its collaboration with Marvel, the watch world was abuzz with anticipation to see what this creative partnership would yield. In this instance, AP has truly invested its resources and demonstrated visionary leadership once again; since the release of various Marvel series, many timepieces featured in the films have sparked trends, introducing younger generations and watch enthusiasts to other world-class brands. From here on out, international collectors are keeping a close watch to see which AP model will go viral next. 
On April 10, 2021, AP unveiled the watch inspired by the Marvel film: the Royal Oak Concept Black Panther. The watch features a black and purple color scheme, incorporating patterns and lines from the "Panther Habit" suit onto the case and dial, along with two key highlights from the worlds of horology and cinema: a hand-carved Black Panther figure and a flying tourbillon. It’s quite extraordinary, isn't it? 
The watch concept deconstructs the definition of the Wakandan people, who live by traditional customs within a futuristic, advanced world. The sandblasted titanium case and the high-tech ceramic and titanium bezel, along with the suit's patterns, represent this modernity, while the satin-brushed finishes and the tourbillon stand as classic representatives of traditional eras.
The surface of the suit was laser-engraved, while the details of the hero's hands, claws, muscles, and face were hand-carved and meticulously painted in multiple layers to achieve a perfect balance of contrasting textures and depth. 
The two-tone design of the tourbillon cage complements the overall aesthetic of the watch, creating a 3D movement that integrates perfectly with the white gold Royal Oak hands. The mechanism on the back is also polished and features patterns based on the BP suit theme. 
The one-off piece released differs from the limited edition model, featuring a white gold case, adorned with the BP suit pattern on both the case and the bezel, as well as hand-painted details of the BP figure on the dial in purple accents. The strap of the production model does not feature these patterns.
This particular piece was auctioned online during the press conference to raise funds for First Book and Ashoka, organizations that support underprivileged children by providing them with access to education. The final auction price reached a staggering 5.2 million dollars—you could say the bidder is just as much of a superhero.
