Review: Bell & Ross BR 01 Laughing Skull White, Ref. br01-skull-o-sk-st

     It is well known that Bell & Ross launched the BR 01 Skull over a decade ago. The first BR 01 Skull made a lasting impression on its owners with a design that diverged from the traditional style of the Skull family, eventually becoming a popular collection for Bell & Ross. For this piece, B&R has introduced the BR 01 Laughing Skull White.

A Striking Dial

     The BR-01 case measures 46mm in width, but this model is thicker than previous Skull versions, with a thickness of 13.5mm.
The case is crafted from sandblasted stainless steel and features hobnail decorations on the top surface and case back, giving this watch a distinct and unique character.

   Another interesting feature is the decoration of the skull, which references the pirate symbol often associated with the military—particularly given that the brand originally produced watches for paratroopers in World War II. The "Jolly Roger" skull dial has been designed and finished to look as realistic as possible, including hand-painting on the surface and shading to create depth, making it look highly lifelike from various angles. The forehead of the skull reveals the mechanical movement underneath.

Mechanical Movement

     This watch is powered by the BR-CAL.206 movement, developed by Concepto, a specialist in complex movement design that produces calibers for numerous other brands.

     The movement is oriented vertically within the case. Most uniquely, the winding mechanism is designed to interact with the movement of the skull's jaw, embodying the Latin phrase "Memento Ridere," or "Remember to always laugh."
